Theatre

As part of our Performing Arts Department, our drama and theatre courses offer students diverse opportunities to develop skills in all aspects of performance and production.

Activities guide students toward an understanding of performances as a form of communication and expression. Students learn to increase communication skills by developing a stronger knowledge of theatre. They will experiment with improvisation, various dramatic scripts, pantomime and several warm-up techniques. They will learn theatre history, theatre terms, character and scene building and proper voice usage.  This class is also designed to offer the novice speaker a number of opportunities to organize and prepare public speaking assignments and embrace the unique qualities that make their individual style of communication effective.  This class will offer simulations of real world environments where the speaker can actually stand in front of a live audience and present their practiced performance

Each year, our student-actors have the chance to perform in student-created shows as well as faculty-directed stage productions. Students regularly perform in our on-campus Black Box Theatre and bring all-school musicals to life on larger stages like the Historic Polk Theatre.
