Scholarships

 

Many scholarship opportunities are available to students planning to enter college.  Please refer to the College Resources page for links to national financial aid and scholarship databases.

Wendy's High School Heisman -- Go to www.wendysheisman.com for information about scholarship awards available to high school seniors who participate in at least one sport and are leaders in the school or community. 

Elks National Foundation Scholarships -- Visit www.elks.org for information about more than $3 million in scholarships awarded to academically excellent students.  Some scholarships require parents or grandparents to maintain membership in the Elks organization.  Most Elks scholarship applications open in September and close in November.  Check the website for more details.

Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS) Program -- GMS annually selects 1,000 seniors nationally for its comprehensive, renewable, need-based, merit scholarships.  Students must be African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American; have a cumulative unweighted minimum 3.3 GPA; have demonstated leadership;  and meet Federal Pell grant elgibiility criteria.  Visit www.gmsp.org for more information.

Walmart Foundation Scholarship Programs -- Visit www.walmartstores.com to learn more about Walmart's $9 million scholarship program.

Arts for Life! Scholarship -- Visit www.ExcelinEd.org for information about 25 scholarships of $1,000 each awarded to graduating high school seniors planning to pursue arts in higher education.

National Institute of Peace -- Go to www.usip.org/npec for information about the scholarship program.  The NIP offers a number of scholarships for students submitting applications and an essay on the topic of Effectivenss of Nonviolent Civic Action.

Florida Engineering Society -- Go to www.fleng.org/scholarships.cfm to learn more about the annual Florida Engineering Society High Scholarship Program.  Several scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 will be distributed to seniors who have a genuine interest in pursuing an engineering degree and are graduating from a Florida high school.

Florida Realtors -- Visit Florida Realtors Education Foundation for information/application for the Florida Realtors Student Scholarship Program.  Awards range from $1,000 to $4,000.

Best Buy -- Best Buy @ 15 Scholarship Program -- Visit www.at15.com for more information about 1,000 scholarships of $1,000 each to be awarded to high school students involved in volunteer community service or work experience.

Randy Roberts Foundation -- Go to www.randyrobertsfoundation.org for information about scholarships available to high school students involved in student government, service learning, and volunteer community service.

David Logan Scholarship -- Bright House Sports Network sponsors this $2,500 annually awarded scholarship for students with a minimum 3.5 GPA who have participated in athletics.  Visit Logan Scholarship for more information.

American Association of University Women (AAUW) -- The Lake Wales Branch of the AAUW is offering Educational Achievement Awards of $500 to local women interested in continuing their education beyond high school.  Visit the College Advising Office for more information.

Kohl's Cares Scholarship -- Go to the Kohl's Cares Scholarship webpage to learn more about this scholarship program available to students no older than 18.  Within the prior 12 month period, students must have contributed to the community in a meaningful way by performing volunteer services that helped non-family members.  If interested, visit the College Advising Office for nomination information.

George Jenkins Scholarship -- Go to the Polk Education Foundation website for more information about this $1,000 scholarship awarded on the basis of financial need and academic achievement. 

Maxcy Foundation Scholarship -- Look at the Polk Education Foundation website to learn more about this multi-year scholarship.  It is available to students demonstrating financial need who complete a 100-word essay.  Applications from children of employees of Latt Maxcy Corp or Citizens Bank will be given preferential treatment.

Bright House Volunteer Youth Service Awards -- Go to Bright House's Volunteer Youth Service Awards page to learn more about winning a laptop computer.  The award is available to Tampa Bay area high school students who have a minimum 2.5 GPA and have completed a volunteer project of 50 or more hours.

Johnson Scholarship Foundation -- Visit www.jsf.bz for information about scholarships available to children of UPS employees or retirees who live in Florida.

Rotary Club of Lake Wales -- Stop by the College Advising Office if you would like information about the three $500 scholarships available to seniors who live in the Lake Wales area and will be attending college in the summer or fall of 2011.  One of the three scholarships is reserved for a student entering a health-related field.

American Legion Scholarships -- Many chapters of the American Legion offer scholarships for graduating seniors who are children or grandchildren of American Legion members.  Contact your relative's chapter of the American Legion for more information. 

Healthy Lifestyle Scholarship--This $5,000 scholarship is open to students currently enrolled as high school students or first-year college students. To be eligible for this award you must be under 25 years of age and answer both of the essay questions. Visit Healthy Lifestyle Scholarship for more information.

Buick Achievers Scholarship-- This scholarship is available to students who will be enrolling for full-time study as first-time freshmen at a 4-year college or university and are planning to major in one of the following: science, technology, engineering, math, business administration, finance, marketing, or design, and are interested in a career in the automotive or related industries. Will to Win--Merck Respiratory sponsors this scholarship program for high school seniors with asthma who are pursuing higher eduation.  Visit www.WillToWinScholarship.com for more information.
